March kicks off the start of ozone season (March - November), when air quality worsens in the region due to higher concentrations of ground-level ozone, also known as "smog". Emissions from motor vehicle exhaust and other sources react in the sunlight to form smog. Consequently, smog worsens midday when more cars are out and about and the sun is shining bright. You can reduce smog by driving less, particularly during lunchtime.
